DUBLIN, Ireland: The government expects nearly all third-level students to return to college campuses in September.

Simon Harris, the Minister for Higher Education, said there still might be some online learning taking place in the fall, but the government is planning for a full return to third-level education in person.

He added that all students can expect a significant increase in on-campus learning.

Harris also revealed that rapid Covid testing is being carried out at four universities beginning this week, as part of a test to determine if Covid testing is to become part of college routines.

Harris noted that Ireland has invested €1.2 million in testing, and the college program might help to decide the role such testing could play in managing Covid-19.

He also said he will introduce proposals to the Cabinet to detail what students might expect with the return to in-person education.

He noted that most students will have received at least one dose of a Covid vaccine by the time college begins in September.
