BRUSSELS, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- European Council President Charles Michel has been out of quarantine after he tested negative on Friday, his spokesman Barend Leyts announced on Twitter.

The European Union (EU) chief decided to go into quarantine on Tuesday after he was informed one of his close guards tested positive. A summit of European leaders originally scheduled for Sept. 24-25 has been postponed for one week.

Michel has been doing regular testing for COVID-19 and his previous test result on Monday was negative as well, according to Leyts.

Executive Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis is another high-ranking EU official known to have gone into quarantine recently in line with public health requirements.

Dombrovskis took the precautionary measure on Wednesday after meeting someone who tested positive. He has worked from home since then. ■
